On the 28th April 2011, British politician and ex-shadow chancellor Ed Balls tweeted his own name for everyone to see. It read, simply, "Ed Balls". This lead many users on Twitter to mockingly retweet the message thousands of times. Since then, many users have been annually celebrating "Ed Balls Day" by spamming his name on Twitter on the anniversary of the original tweet.
